Transform the way you operate at work

July 27, 2006 – 2:48 pm

So, you are after that promotion or pay rise. You are good at your job and have the experience. You even have the required technical qualifications. Unfortunately, so do the people that work around you. You need to have an edge - something for the powers that be to see in you that separates you from the crowd.

Review: Konstam at the Prince Albert

July 21, 2006 – 2:03 pm

I have been to the restaurant twice now. The first time for the novelty factor, the second because it was so good the first time! The food was fantastic. Oliver Rowe is an excellent chef. He really knows his stuff. The food is all local, all fresh. With these ingredients, where can you go wrong?

I did notice one small glitch however. The food was far better the first time that the second. The difference that could cause such a discrepancy – Oliver was cooking the first meal, and having an evening off for our second visit!

Excellent restaurant. Will definitely go again.

The hottest chilli in the world

July 19, 2006 – 12:11 pm

England is not noted for Chilli, but a grower in Dorset (south west England) has produced a chilli known as the Dorset Naga that literally blows the top off of the Scoville scale with a measured 923,000 SHU (Scoville Heat Units). This is substantially hotter than the hottest of the hot – according to the Guinness World Records.

The Dorset Naga is available by mail order from the growers via their Pepper by Post website.

Motorists barmy plan to evade fine

July 5, 2006 – 3:28 pm

English motorist John Hopwood came up with a unique but flawed method of trying to evade a speeding fine.  He took a 40mph sign and put it up in the 30mph limit area where he had speeded, giving the illusion that his speed was OK. Read the rest of this entry »

Funny Money

June 26, 2006 – 12:38 pm

The text from a letter from the UK's Inland Revenue to a poor tax payer (Chris Addison) which was published in the Guardian newspaper in September 2003, has been circulating again in email circles.

It made me laugh, so I thought I'd share it with you.

Player gets booked three times in World Cup match

June 23, 2006 – 5:14 pm

Croatia defender Josip Simunic set a new world cup record when he got booked three times in the match between Croatia and Australia.  Normally when the second yellow is shown, it is followed by a red as the player gets his marching orders.  However, in this case, English referee Graham Poll seemingly lost count and didn't send Simunic for an early bath until the third yellow. Bringing Up Christ

June 22, 2006 – 5:59 pm

Imagine the unimaginable - God chooses you to host the birth of the second coming of Christ.  Well, three sisters from Inverness in Scotland have imagined such a situation, and since the year 2000 they have had insurance cover for the eventuality that one of them immaculately conceives the second coming of the little baby Jesus.  Read the rest of this entry »

House Prices

June 21, 2006 – 12:47 pm

Are house prices going to rise forever? Have they peaked? Is the property market to be gloomy or golden over the next few years. Robert F. Martin an economist with the US Federal Reserve published a very interesting discussion document last year – with a model that predicts house prices based on baby boom population figures.

The details are more than interesting!

Konstam at the Prince Albert

June 21, 2006 – 8:20 am

A TV show on the BBC called Urban Chef grabbed my attention.  It featured a chef called Oliver Rowe who has the vision of creating a restaurant in London that sources all of its food from London itself.  That’s not to just say buying all of its food from London, but the food also has to be produced there too!

The restaurant is Konstam at the Prince Albert, and it is open for business.

The first plane home…

June 20, 2006 – 6:10 pm

"I hope England are on the first plane back from Deutchsland. I'm from the People's Republic of Mancunia. I'll have to leave if they win it. The country will be full of cockneys going on about it for years."
